Chessie Hutto Rhoad

Mrs. Chessie Hutto Rhoad, 92 of Bamberg, SC passed away April 20, 2018 at the home after a brief illness.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rhoad will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, April 22, 2018 at the Edisto Baptist Church 4831 Edisto River Road Branchville, SC with Rev. Dale Hutto and Rev. Jakie Walters officiating. Burial will be in Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends before the service from 2:30PM until 4:00PM at the church.

She was born in Bamberg County, SC on November 23, 1925 to the late Fred T. Hutto and the late Vernelle Boltin Hutto. She was married to the late Thomas H Rhoad, Jr. for 68 years.

She was a member of Edisto Baptist Church. She graduated Bamberg High School and then went to Emory Business College in Atlanta, Georgia. She was the first woman to serve on Bamberg County Council. She was very much involved in Council on Aging in Bamberg County. She was an avid bridge player, loved gardening, Clemson football. She was an expert cook for family and friends. Her appearance was second to none.

She is survived by two sons Fred H. (Debbie) Rhoad, Roger W. Rhoad, and one daughter Kim R. (Randy) Berry, 5 grandchildren Rusty Rhoad, Jr., Amanda R. (Lee) Strother, Juliana B. (Matt) Palyok, Randon R. (Rachel) Berry, and Paula A. (Jeremy) Kirk, 8 great grandchildren Lindsey and Colton Rhoad, Layla and Leslee Strother, Julia Palyok, Natalie and Knox Berry, Will Billbrough, 1 sister Jane Hutto Bennett and 1 brother Francis Hutto and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 1 son Thomas Nathaniel Rhoad, III, 1 sister Elise Cogburn, 4 brother Thomas Hutto, J. C. Hutto, James Hutto, and Bennie Hutto.

Pall bearers will be Jonathan Hutto, Perry Hutto, Jeremy Gates, Eric Cogburn, Frankie Murdock, Richard Rentz, Billy McCormick and Bryan Rhoad.
