Flint Penfield Smith, II, Bamberg, SC

Flint Penfield Smith II of Bamberg, SC passed away on Thursday, August 10th at 7:15 PM while being treated for Guillain-Barré syndrome at Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia, SC. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones when he went to be with his Lord. Flint was born December 23, 1953 in Flint, Michigan, and was the son of the late Brainard Pryor Smith and Ann (Bishop) Smith. He is survived by his loving wife Caroline (Schwarting) Smith, his son Garett Evan Pryor Smith, his daughter Anna Woodward Smith, and many other nieces and nephews, two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, as well as friends, cousins, and his loyal dog Sherlock. After graduating from the University of South Carolina, Flint began a career as a Certified Public Accountant that spanned well over 40 years, including time with Deloitte Haskins & Sells and as the Controller for M.J. Soffe in Fayetteville, NC. He diligently served the people of Bamberg County, Charleston County, and many other counties throughout the Lowcountry of South Carolina and throughout the United States. He was a devoted father that loved to travel with his family, including visiting all 50 states of the United States, various countries in Europe, and periodic trips to Walt Disney World. He was also an accomplished golfer, and a devoted fan of both the Detroit Tigers, the Detroit Lions, and the Detroit Redwings, as well as his beloved Gamecocks. He truly loved his family, his church, where he previously served as a Deacon, and his country. He had a particular fondness for those that serve in the military, and guard and protect our country. He was an avid supporter of The Wounded Warrior Foundation, The Citadel, where his son graduated, as well as several other Veteran organizations. Flint was gracious, friendly, giving, as well as an extremely caring man. His laugh could fill a room with joy, optimism, and hope. He will be missed and loved by all those that came in touch with him.
