Betty Jane (Clayton) Boyd

Betty Jane Clayton Boyd, 92, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Alabama Oaks in Winter Park, FL.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening June 7, 2017 from 5:00 until 7:00 at Cooner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Colston Branch Baptist Church, Bamberg, SC.

Officiating will be The Rev. Shawn Hanks, The Rev. Guy Sanders II, and Kristopher Olliff.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Pallbearers will be: Nicholas “Cole” Busby, Danny Clayton, Dave Clayton, Brock Kelsey, Kristopher Olliff and Will Wilson.

A longtime resident of Bamberg, Mrs. Boyd was the daughter of the late David Samuel Clayton, Sr. and Bessie Kirkland Clayton.  She attended Columbia Bible College and was a graduate of Columbia Hospital School of Nursing in 1946.  She worked as a registered nurse at Cook County and Presbyterian Hospitals in Chicago, Ill, Bamberg County Hospital, Carlisle Military School, Drs. Watson and Dwight’s office in Bamberg and at Methodist Oaks in Orangeburg.

Mrs. Boyd is survived by her daughter, Frances Boyd Olliff (Kirk), Fort Worth, TX, her sister, Ruth Frye, a brother, Dan Clayton (Zelda), Aiken, SC, and sister-in-law, Elizabeth  G. Clayton, Bamberg, SC. Three grandchildren: Kristopher Olliff (Elizabeth), Nichole Kelsey (Brock), and Natalie Wilson (Will) and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Boyd, son, Kenny Boyd, brother, David Clayton, and grandson, Daniel Olliff.

The family would like to thank her longtime caregiver, Mrs. Norma Dukes, the staff at Alabama Oaks, and Vitas Hospice Care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Colston Branch Baptist Church, 655 Sunday School Road, Bamberg, SC 29003.

Because of her love and strong Faith in Jesus Christ, she is in heaven now and her blind eyes can see.
