Dr. John Norman Dalton, Bamberg, SC
Dr. John Norman Dalton, 81 of Bamberg, SC passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019 surrounded by his family.
Funeral services for Dr. Dalton will be held 2:00PM Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Bamberg First Baptist Church 11823 Heritage Highway with the Rev. Charlie Lucas, Dr. Charlie Barnard, Rev. Brad Hudson and Robbie Sox officiating with burial to follow at Bamberg County Memory Gardens.
He was born in Bamberg on February 21, 1937 to the late Victor Norman Dalton and the late Leila Gillam Dalton.
Dr. Dalton graduated from Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School in 1954. He attended the University of Georgia from 1954 until 1961 where he received a BS Degree in Agriculture and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree.
He married the love of his life, Joyce Hair, on June 28,1959 and remained happily married for 59 years.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Hair Dalton, two daughters Sharon Dalton (Tom) Cornforth, Susan Dalton (John) Hiers, grandchildren Thomas Dalton (Carly) Cornforth, Michaela Joylynn Cornforth, Landis Dalton Hiers, Colby John Hiers. He was predeceased by brother Tommy Dalton.
He enjoyed spending quality time with his wife and family, deer hunting at Edisto Hunt Club, working with all of his animals and watching his cherished Georgia Bulldogs.
He was a member of First Baptist Church Bamberg since childhood. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and a choir member for many years.
Dr. Dalton was in a mixed practice with Dr. H.W. Kinard from 1961-1967 when he accepted a position as Field Veterinarian with the USDA. He resigned that position in 1973 and began a solo veterinary practice in Bamberg. He remained in that practice until his retirement on July 1, 2015.
He was a member of the Bamberg Men’s Garden Club, The American Veterinary Medical Association, The Edisto Hunting Club, a former member of the Bamberg Lions Club and a former Bamberg-Ehrhardt School Board Member.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Bamberg First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
