Obituary

Mrs. Catherine Merle Hindman of Bamberg, SC entered into eternal rest on September 28,2017 surrounded by loved ones at her residence. Merle was the widow of Chester Eugene Hindman. She was predeceased by her parents Hammie Oscar and Ida Mae Folk. She was also predeceased by four brothers-Perzie Folk, Jim Folk, Herman Folk, and LaVerne Folk and two sisters -Shirley Myers and Carolyn Kirkland. She was survived by one brother, Franklin Folk.  Merle was born September 24, 1931.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 30 at 3:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Bamberg with Rev Charlie Lucas and Rev Brad Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Bamberg County Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends and loved ones at the residence-2858 Railroad Avenue Friday, September 29th afternoon from 4-7 PM and other times as well. They will also receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Merle enjoyed visits from her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her daily visits from Zeke and Zoey.  She looked forward to her annual beach trips with her sisters- Carolyn and Shirley and listening to the radio to hear the Red Raiders play football on Friday night.

Surviving are her daughters and sons in law: Donna and David Sumler of Moncks Corner, Gayle and John Strong of Kingstree, Cheryl and Buddy Evans of Bamberg, Gina and Gene Williams of Bamberg. Also surviving is her son and daughter in law Greg and Karrene Hindman of Williston. She is also survived by her daughter in law, Donna Hindman of Bamberg. She was predeceased by her son Charles Allen Hindman.

Surviving are her grandchildren: Kim (Billy)Osborne of Columbia, Angela(Scott)Feagin of Kingstree, Alicia Bell of Bamberg, Allison (Howard) Kirkland of Bamberg, Shane (Hilary) Hindman of Barnwell, Catrina (Chuck)Arbogast of Barnwell, Ashley(Brad)Whitehead of Barnwell, Kristin (Christopher) Brant of Barnwell, Anna (Bryan) Dewitt of Varnville, Jenny (Todd) Troutman of St.Matthews, Jon Sumler of St. Stephens, Sarah Catherine Williams of Bamberg, and Emma Williams of Bamberg. She was predeceased by her grandson, Christopher Ryan Hindman.

Her great grands are numerous and they affectionately called her Mema. Aunt Merle was loved by many nieces and nephews and extended family. Mema also had very special neighbors, Dennis and Victoria Reilly and wonderful caregivers Glenda Behling, Eloise Glover, and Shirley Williams.

The family will gladly accept flowers or would suggest donations be made to: First Baptist Church, Puerto Rico Mission P.O. Box 355, Bamberg, SC 29003 for the upcoming mission trip.
