Charles Frederick
Black, Jr
January 23, 1949 – August 5, 2025
Born on January 23rd, 1949, Chuck was the eldest child of the late Charles F. Black and Thelma Holloway Black of Bamberg, SC. He grew up in Bamberg and graduated from the Camden Military Academy in Camden, SC.
He joined the United States Air Force in 1968, where he was twice deployed to Viet Nam. Chuck graduated from Chaminade University in Honolulu on December 18th, 1989. He left the United States Airforce in1971 and joined the United States Marine Corps where he served until 1991.
After retiring from his military career, he worked in several capacities as a civil servant. These positions include posts at McAlester Army Ammunition Plant in Oklahoma and Ft. Shafter in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was a CEB-NEA at Camp Caroll in South Korea and MSC-K at Camp Caroll. After returning to the US, he worked in Herlong, CA, Warren, MI, Albany, GA and in Charleston, SC. His most esteemed position was as GS-13 Chief at the Directorate for the Maintenance Production Control Division.
Chuck was preceded in death by his loving parents Charles F Black and Thelma H. Black. He is survived by his son John Yong Ho K. Black and his daughter-in-law Hannah Inman Black; his sister Martha Black Lucas (David); nephew Jonathan Benjamin Black Lucas (Jenny); nieces Cary Lucas Nikonchuk (Erick) and Lydia Darby Simons Lucas (Harvey) and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Having grown up in First Baptist Church of Bamberg, SC he never wavered in his love and devotion to Christ. In his later years he faithfully attended Olar First Baptist Church in Olar, SC.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 9th at the Bamberg First Baptist Church with the Rev. George Autry. Interment will follow at the South End Cemetery, Bamberg, SC.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Service at the Bamberg First Baptist Church on Saturday, August 9th.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Olar First Baptist Church, 35 Hull Street ,Olar, SC 29843.
