Bamberg, SC

Herbert Smith West, 99, husband of the late Betty Lee Hagan West died Saturday, February 27, 2021 after a brief period of declining health.  He was a son of the late Claude West  and Annie Belle Gist West.

Mr. West was patriotic and a had a great love for the American flag and his country having served in World War II.  During his service as Captain in World War II he served in the 77th Division, Pacific Theater and was the recipient of the Silver Star and the Bronze Star.  After his career in the Military he graduated from Clemson University; worked and retired from Bamberg Textile Mill in Bamberg, SC.  Mr. West was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and also served as a volunteer Fireman for Bamberg County for many years.

He is survived by his son Herbert Smith " Buddy" and his wife Kim.  Additional survivors are two grandchildren, Calder Smith West and Hagan Marie West.

Graveside Services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Bamberg Memory Gardens.
