James William "Billy" Mixon, Jr. Bamberg
Mr. James William "Billy" Mixon, Jr. passed away peacefully at home he loved in Midway Tuesday afternoon with his family around.
Funeral services for Mr. Billy will be held 1:00 PM Friday, May 3, 2019 at Bamberg First Baptist Church 11823 Heritage Highway Bamberg, SC 29003 with the Rev. Charlie Lucas and Rev. Ken Hay officiating. Burial will follow at South End Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the hour of service at the church.
Billy was born in Fort Myers, Florida March 5, 1927. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Nelle Coleman Mixon and his beloved son John Wesley Mixon.
He is survived by sons Jimmy (Brenda) Mixon, Michael (Rhonda) Mixon of Bamberg, daughter Alice M. (Leonard) Rice of Orangeburg, grandsons Mark (Melissa) of Leesville, Matt (Faron) Mixon of Bamberg, and Brian (Tracey) of Cocoa, Florida, and granddaughter Amanda (Brandon) Brabham of Bamberg, Kristen (Daniel) Caulder of Bamberg, and Kasey Mixon of Bamberg, great grandchildren Michaela, Kaylin, Mason, Maddie, and Branson, nephews Roland (Harriett) Moorer of Providence, Walter (Allyson) Moorer of North Charleston, great nephew Quincy and great niece Abby, dear cousin Steve (Bonnie) Bennett of Ridgeland. Special mention goes to a very dedicated and loyal friend, Clayton Zeigler of Bamberg.
Billy retired from life of Georgia Insurance Co. where he worked for 38 years. He enjoyed his career and found great pleasure in customers he met and served and friendships developed along the way.
Billy was first and foremost a family man. He enjoyed nothing more than having everyone around. He also enjoyed woodworking and was quite an accomplished carpenter. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bamberg.
Billy was quick-witted, fun-loving, generous, loyal and always ready to help anyone in need.
