John Russell Blocker, Jr. Sergeant First Class, South Carolina Army National Guard, retired,  passed away January 25, 2023.

John was born November 20, 1948 in Orangeburg, SC and grew up in Bamberg, SC.  He was the son of the late John Russell Blocker, Sr. and Gladys Morton Blocker. John was retired from the Army/National Guard.  He was very active in his church, having served as a member of the Vestry, an Usher, and was a delegate to the diocesan synod.  He greatly enjoyed spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Rhetta Hartin Blocker, daughter Catie Remion (Matthew), sister Geri Owens (Jimmy), grandson's Walter Remion and Henry Remion, niece Jill McDonald (Lindsey), nephew John Owens, great nephew Jack McDonald, and many other friends and loved ones.

A graveside funeral will be held on Saturday, January 28th at 2:00 pm, at South End Cemetery in Bamberg, SC on South Carlisle Street.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of John Blocker to The Anglican Cathedral Church of the Epiphany, 2512 North Beltline Blvd, Columbia, SC 29204.
