Margaret Ann Craven Poteat of Greenville and Pawleys Island, SC, passed away on April 17, 2025, in Alpharetta, GA. Mrs. Poteat was born April 3, 1936, in Bamberg, SC. She was the daughter of the late William Herbert and Marion Easterling Craven. She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Poteat Lang, and her husband, Brett Thomas Lang; her son, Michael Craven Poteat; her grandson, Jonas Brett Lang, and granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Lang, all of Atlanta. She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford Wilson Poteat, Jr.; her daughter, Marion Ann Poteat; her grandson, Brett Thomas Lang, Jr; her brother, William Herbert Craven, Jr.; and her sister-in-law, Lois Kearse Craven. Also surviving are her brother-in-law, Mickey F. Poteat; two nephews; and two nieces.
Margaret Ann was deeply defined by her hometown of Bamberg and told many stories of growing up there. She graduated with a degree from Winthrop College in Home Economics and started her career as a teacher in Savannah. She was an outstanding cook having written cookbooks while working at Duke Power in Charlotte, where she met her husband on a blind date with mutual friends. After raising her family, she managed a Ford auto parts warehouse until she retired. She loved to sew and could create anything including the bodice for her daughter's wedding gown or a cover for her toddler grandson's electric car. She also loved British mysteries, gardening, and tennis. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Greenville, and attended services at Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church, also. Services will be at Cooner Funeral Home Chapel, 287 McGee Street, Bamberg, SC, on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at South End Cemetery, South Carlisle Street, Bamberg, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bamberg Cemetery Association, PO Box 31, Bamberg, SC 29003, or to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, https://www.lls.org/ways-to-give.
