Shirley Marie Scott Gross (90) of Bamberg, SC, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025. She was born on July 10, 1935, in Batavia, NY, daughter of the late Donald and Alice Hackett Scott. She was preceded in death by her husband Edgar Gross, son in law John Flint, parents, sisters, Peggy Scott, Linda Scott, and Donna Hollister, and a brother Richard Scott.

She is survived by her two daughters, Lynn Whisenhunt (Larry), Leslie Flint, and a son Gordon Gross. She has 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Brothers Harold (Rowena) Scott, and Donald Scott sister in law, Rose Scott, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Shirley was a Registered Nurse, a 1957 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Buffalo, NY. She began her career working at JN Adams Memorial Hospital. She then worked at Jamestown General Hospital for 19 years, specializing in Cardiac Care. The family moved from New York to South Carolina in 1975. Her nursing career continued in Coronary Care at Orangeburg Regional Hospital, before moving to Bamberg Memorial Hospital. She remained at Bamberg Memorial Hospital until she retired in 2010. In addition to her nursing career, she was actively involved in the family dairy farm.

Shirley was a Presbyterian and a woman of faith.

The family would like to say a special Thank You to Gentiva Hospice, and each of the many staff members, who assisted in providing home care, during the last 18 months. Some of you were in fact, old friends, some of you, became new friends, but everyone of you, treated her like a queen, and we remain grateful.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Cooner Funeral Home in Bamberg, SC. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10:00 AM.
