Carolyn Black Obituary

Carolyn Goodwin Black went to be with her heavenly Father, her husband, Martin, and her daughter, Ann, on Thursday, May 5, 2022. She was the wife of Martin H. Black and a beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Born on October 14, 1927, in Bamberg County, Carolyn was the eldest child of Ghue B. Goodwin and Roberta Lancaster Goodwin. After graduating from Barnwell High School, she attended Coker College and the University of South Carolina. She then worked for the State Highway Department and eventually retired from the Bamberg County Health Department. An avid bridge player, Carolyn belonged to several bridge clubs. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bamberg and the WMU.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Martin, and her daughter Ann. She is survived by her son, Reverend Greg Black (Rosanne) of Marion, and daughter, Kay Paul (Raymond) of Summerville; three beloved grandchildren – Jonathan Black (Jessica) of Surfside Beach, Wallace Black Waugh (Steven) of Chagrin Falls, OH, and Caroline Black Davidson (Matt) of Charleston, SC., and five precious great-grandchildren. She is survived by one sister, June Black of Barnwell and was predeceased by siblings Claire Latham and Norman Goodwin. She is also survived by stepsiblings Emily Goodwin Collins of Barnwell and Guy B. Goodwin of Danville, VA and was predeceased by stepsiblings Donnie Goodwin, Ronnie Goodwin, and Francis Goodwin. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the assisted-living staff of Stratford Place in Goose Creek. A Celebration of Life service will be held in the First Baptist Church of Bamberg, 11823 Heritage Hwy, on Monday, May 9, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Bamberg Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends in the church at 1:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Bamberg or a charity of your choice. The family is being assisted by Cooner Funeral Home of Bamberg.
