Elizabeth Gamble Clayton was born on January 14, 1922 to Luther Mastin and Magdelene Plowden Gamble in Turbeville, SC. She was married to the love of her life, the late David Samuel Clayton Jr., for 68 years and together they had two sons, David Luther Clayton (Sue) and Robert Earl Clayton.
Mrs. Liz was faithful to her church, Colston Branch Baptist and was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Gideons International. She will always be remembered as being a good daughter, a good wife, a good mother and a doting grandmother. Several generations of children remember her for her “Busy Bees” stories in Vacation Bible School and Sunbeams. Many students of Bamberg Ehrhardt High School will also remember her as the “Little Lady” that reigned over study hall with a #2 pencil for many years and then In-School Suspension for several more years.
Mrs. Liz passed away on July 27, 2023 and will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her sons, she is survived by her four grandsons, David Paul Clayton (Ashley) of the Colston Community, Bryan Luther (Luke) Clayton (Jessica) of Beaufort, SC, Jacob Earl Clayton of Thornton, CO, and Samuel Ethan Clayton (Ashlyn Sandifer) of the Colston Community. There are also four great-grands, Patrick Luke Clayton, Lyla Anne Clayton, Sophia Grace Clayton, and Maddox James Clayton.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Low Country Assisted Living in Ehrhardt for their loving assistance to Mrs. Clayton and to BJ Hiott as her hospice nurse.
Services will be held at Colston Branch Baptist on Monday, July 31, at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Colston Branch Baptist Church (655 Sunday School Dr, Bamberg SC 29003) or to the Gideons.
