Janie Rosamond Manuel Skowron, eldest of five children born to the late Virgil and Corine Ayer Manuel of Fairfax, SC was called to the Lord on September 2, 2023.
At 99, she said “The Lord will decide when to take me, I’m tired and I have done all I can for my family.” In reality, on Tuesday after a trip to the funeral home to conclude her arrangements with her best friend Lucy Light, she fell ill with an aching back and her constitution quickly declined. By Thursday the Angels of Hospice had made her comfortable at home where she wanted to be and a day later she earned her wings.
She was a farmers’ daughter and grew up in the depression era and worked her way through life with the ‘Manuel’ ethics of ‘you will have a good life if you work hard.’ She attended Fairfax Allendale High School and graduated in the class of 1941. She furthered her education at Draughton Business College in Savannah Georgia graduating in 1943. Soon she found her true love and married and had two children, Richard and Debra. They traveled to the west coast to Washington and California to find their fortune and create better lives for their family. In 1972, for family reasons, they returned to the south.
Survivors are her son, Richard A. Skowron of Cope, daughter, Debra and Joe Hooker of Stuart, Florida. Grandchildren include, Dylan and Mallory Burnham of Vero Beach, Florida, Brian and Crystal Chavis of Cordova, SC and Hollie Skowron of Conway, SC. a sister-in-law Jacqueline "Jacki" Manuel of Barnwell.
Great grandchildren are Sky Chavis of Cordova, Katie Lynn Skowron and Alex Tompkins from Conway, Samual Burnham from Ventura, CA, Richard Reed from Greensboro, NC and Rusty and Roxy Rose Burnham of Vero Beach, FL.
She was preceded in death by her brothers and sister. Furman Manuel, Vernon Manuel, Paul Manuel and Vera Manuel Hughes and her first granddaughter, Morgan Rose Burnham Reed.
