Margaret Hiers Obituary

Margaret Annette McMillan Hiers, 84, of the St. Johns Community of Ehrhardt passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in the early morning at her home on June 27, 2022.  She was the wife of the late Franklin Hiers whom she married on September 16, 1962.

Margaret was born on July 7, 1937.   Her parents were the late Preston and the late Queenie McMillan of the Colston Community.  She graduated from Bamberg High School and then attended Business School in Orangeburg.

Later she was employed by Ehrhardt Milling Company, Varnco and Herndon Stock Yard all of Ehrhardt.  Margaret along with her husband, established Hierground Quail Farm in 1994 and Hiers Small Engine in 1995.

She was an active member of St. Johns Baptist Church.  She served faithfully in WMU, Building and Grounds Committee, and the Bereavement Committee. In the community, Margaret loved being involved in the Young at Heart, and the Ehrhardt Lions Club,

Margaret enjoyed cheering for the Clemson Tigers and the Atlanta Braves.  She loved to attend Clemson games with family and friends.  She had a passion for working in her yard keeping it beautiful and always blooming with flowers.  Her home was a haven of Southern charm.  Friends and family enjoyed eating delicious meals prepared by her. She was a giver to all and a taker from none.

Margaret is survived by her loving son William Franklin (Frankie) Hiers (Randal) of Ehrhardt; Carolyn Worrix of Allen Kentucky; June Kearse  (Chester) of Fairfax; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Franklin; brothers Preston and Charles McMillan; and sisters Dot Tiner and Berta Formby.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, July 1, 2022 at St. Johns Baptist Church with the Rev. Tracy Trivette and Rev. Mike Reid officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Family will receive friends Thursday, June 30, 2022 at the Cooner Funeral Home, 287 McGee Street, Bamberg, SC from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

The family is thankful for the unending, longtime friendship and care given by Catherine Carter, as well as Willa Linen for her compassion and care she provided to the family.  A special thank  you to Kendall Smith and Sharon Grays with Edisto Homecare and Hospice of Orangeburg, SC for the loving care they provided for our family.

Memorials may be made to the St. Johns Baptist Church Building and Grounds, 2468 St. Johns Church Road, Ehrhadt, SC 29081
