Mildred Allen Obituary

Mildred Rae Ayer Allen, 100 years old, born May 2, 1922 went home to spend eternity with her loving Lord on December 8, 2022.

More than anything, Mildred’s greatest joy was her family and as a devout Baptist serving her Lord.  She lived in the Colston Community for 78 years.  An active member of St. John’s Baptist Church and past member of  Colston Branch Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School, Sunbeams and Bible School, along with being Director of the WMU for many years.

Mildred was many things to many people.  She was  generous, kind, always willing to help anyone in need and loved having family and friends come to visit.  Visiting the shut-ins and cooking meals for those in need were also an important part of her life.  She was known for her delicious pound cakes, pickles and canning that she shared with many friends and family.

Mildred’s hobbies were quilting, baking, canning and gardening.  She organized the Colston Quilting Club, where a lot of the quilts were given away as gifts or for a good cause.  Each family member received a special quilt or blanket made with a lot of love.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Halcott and Winnie Ayer in Bamberg County; her husband Hagood Allen, Sr; daughter Madonna Grahn; granddaughter Sheryl Allen; (6) sisters and (1) brother.

Mildred is survived by her son Hagood Allen, Jr. (Jean), daughters Anne Crosby, Melba Elsey (Mike), son-n-law Kelly Grahn, (4) Grandchildren: Tammy Martin (Jamie), Benjie Easterlin (Cathy), Kay Gunnells, Andrea Westmoreland (Tripp): (10) Great Grandchildren: (3) Great Great Grandchildren: and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Mildred’s primary caretakers; grand’s Tammy and Jamie Martin made it possible for her to live in her home until she went to her eternal home.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to: St. John’s Baptist Church, 2468 St. Johns Church Rd, Ehrhardt, SC, 29081; Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 Faris Rd. Greenville, SC 29605 and Regency Southerncare Hospice, 105 Rodriguez Rd., Orangeburg, SC 29118.
