Annette Bessinger Floyd, 86, of Charleston, passed away July 3, 2023.Annette was born on February 17, 1937, in Bamberg, SC, to Riley and Pauline Bessinger. She is preceded in death by her parents, Riley Bessinger, Pauline S. Staley, James Staley (stepfather), her husband, Charles “Dick” Floyd, her loving companion of many years, Clint Morris, her brother, Joseph Cornell Bessinger, and her two sons, Richard C. Floyd, and Charles D. Floyd, Jr. Surviving Annette are daughters, Melesa F. Jacobs (Jeffery) of Moncks Corner Teresa F. Rider (Charles) of Summerville, and her sister, Carol S. Lapolla (Joe) of Cocoa Beach, FL, her nephew, Michael Dempsey of Hanahan, daughter-in-law, Delores Floyd (Ashley) of Greer, 8 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Annette attended Bamberg High School in Bamberg, SC, before completing her secondary education at Columbia College in Columbia, SC. After college, she relocated to Charleston, where she raised her family and retired from a lengthy and prestigious career with the Naval Legal Service/JAG in 1995. After retirement, Annette started a successful court-reporting business which she operated for several years. She was an excellent seamstress, a loyal friend, wonderful mother, aunt, and sister, always making time to listen to others.
A service honoring Annette’s life will take place at Cooner Funeral Home in Bamberg, SC, on Saturday, July 8, at 11:00 AM.
