In 2026, Cooner Funeral Home was acquired by McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation, continuing a legacy of excellence that began in 1886 when John McAlister founded McAlister Funeral Home with a simple but powerful belief that every family deserves thoughtful, personal, and attentive care.

Today, the firm operates as Cooner-Smith, combining the longstanding local heritage of Cooner Funeral Home with the extensive experience and resources of McAlister-Smith. Owner and President Mark Smith, a Bamberg native, is especially proud to serve the community where he was raised. His leadership reflects a deep respect for tradition, a commitment to excellence, and a heartfelt dedication to the families of Bamberg County.
